Dr. Mitchell R. Miller of the State of Vermont, U.S.A., prescribed Ritalin to me for two years as part of my weight loss program. He also prescribed tylenol with coedine for pain. I was 220 pounds, a woman, five feet eight inches tall.
I had previously had employment accidents and other accidents including broken leg, fractured ankle, fractured tailbone, and broken sewing needle in my right hand which hospitals refused to remove, leaving me in chronic pain. The tylenol with coedine relieved pain so I could exercise more. The Ritalin calmed my hunger and helped me to pay more attention to how many calories I was eating. I went from 220 pounds to 180 pounds in about 2 years. Then the Vermont Board of Medical Practice suspended Dr. Mitchell R. Miller's license to practice medicine. After he lost his license to practice medicine, I gained weight. My weight is now 246 pounds. I gained back more weight than I had lost. I am in chronic pain. It is difficult to walk, particularly since there is nerve pain at the bottom of one foot from the herniated disc in my back. I truly believe the Vermont Board of Medical Practice, comprised of people who never met me, had no right to take his license away. The Vermont Board of Medical Practice took his license away without ever meeting any patient of his. This is so typical of the arrogant and facist regime of the State of Vermont.

First reading about any study, once it's been filtered through the media, is ALWAYS a bad idea. Most of these reporters have NO science background and only report on what seems flashy, regardless if it is correct.

Second if you are no sure about something, "The problem with this preliminary study is that there is no indication as to the condition of the subjects and there isn’t a mention of a control group. If the researchers had included a control group that was given a placebo, this study would be a bit more powerful." Perhaps look at the actual study, before commenting on it. If not, you just become part of the original problem.

Thirdly, I'd like to say as a professional in the fitness industry for 15 years. There is more to any proble
then what can be seen. If people have a chemical neurological issue that is the root cause of their problem, then it is the responsible thing to at least look into the issue.

Good article, good read, but word of advise, never focus on how pathetic people are for seeking additional help. Society sets unrealistic and unattainable goals and people expect perfection. Rather focus on the bad aspects such as serious side affects of ritalin and sustain it with actual real life stories. Thanks for the info tho!
